SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA – Officers were called with reports of a disturbance in a neighborhood in San Jose Wednesday morning. The officers say now that they had to shoot a dog that attacked them. Although they did not kill the dog, the owner did have to take the dog to the vet, and is now very angry with the officers’ actions.
When police got to Florence Avenue around 5 in the morning, there were 3 dogs who were trying to attack the officers. The officers were responding to a call about something that didn’t relate to the dogs. However, the officers could not make the dogs calm down so they could continue their work. Additionally, the dogs were large and dangerous, including a Rottweiler, which has the strongest bite force of any dog.
Officers Forced to Shoot Dog
The police officers had to open fire and hit a Rottweiler in the paw. The other two dogs got scared and ran back to the yard and hid under a car. After all, dogs have much more sensitive hearing than humans, meaning a gunshot would be even louder for them than for us. On top of that, they can’t rationally understand where that sound came from and whether it is an active threat or not. Although it isn’t exactly irrational to believe that a gun isn’t dangerous. Maybe dogs are smarter than we give them credit for.
None of the cops had any injuries from the dogs. Evidently, they were able to fight off the dogs’ attacks well enough before they had to fire any shots. However, that position is not sustainable while the police are trying to do their jobs.
Animal control was called to the scene and the owner had to take the Rottweiler to the vet.
The owner was not happy with the incident and would not cooperate with the cops.
